There are two new Dell Laptops that include WiMAX as an option. For a mere $60 you can get what Dell calls the “Intel 5150 Wimax, Wireless-N combo card“. Branded as being in the family of the Centrino 2 chipset it has 802.16e as well as 802.11a/b/g/n which makes it one of the most connected laptops on the planet. More info about the 5150 is available on Intel’s website. Having WiMAX as an option at Dell marks a significant milestone. Who do you think will be the next major vendor to supply WiMAX as an option?

LAS VEGAS (Reuters) – Samsung unveils Mondi, a MID (mobile Internet device) that it plans to sell through Clearwire 2Q ‘09. The Mondi is Samsung’s WiMax device for Clearwire but it is not a phone. Skype or other VOIP software will likely be able to be added to make this an alternative to traditional phones, but it is clearly a data-centric device first.

Before most of us even get WiMax, Tech-On appears to get their hands on a WiMax equipped N810. It looks like a decent product, to bad Nokia will most likely never release WiMax equipment. Even though Wimax (IEEE802.16e) continues to attract attention as a technology to implement next-generation mobile communications Nokia has dropped out of the WiMax game.

This product will fill a void that many of you have by letting you take the internet with you wherever you go, attaching it to varying devices along your travels.
